Hitting bookshelves Tuesday is the follow-up from one of the country’s highest-profile authors, whose debut spent more than a year on the New York Times bestseller list and inspired a Ron Howard-directed Netflix movie nominated for two Academy Awards. Introducing “Communion” by Vice President JD Vance. The book, which chronicles Vance’s conversion to Catholicism, lands at a notable moment — for American Catholics, with a Chicago-born pope presiding over a resurgence of interest in the faith, and for Vance, who soon faces a consequential decision about his political future. It arrives, too, as Vance has emerged as a leading negotiator in the Trump administration’s agreement to end its war with Iran, and he’s now tasked with selling both this deal and his book. To that end, Vance is scheduled to appear on ABC’s The View in the midst of multiple other media interviews focused on Iran.

Consider the established entrepreneur and world traveler who says he checks off boxes for both “over 6 feet” and “over 6 figures.” Or the CEO seeking a beautiful muse to share “international adventures” and a “curated lifestyle.” Then there’s the dude pictured in the driver’s seat of a blue convertible who insists he’s “less of an a**hole than I look.” Scroll matchmaking profiles and you’ll find posts highlighting three specific qualities on repeat: “looks, money and status” — or LMS for those hip to modern dating lingo. Sure, touting LMS features might make more people swipe right, but if you’re looking for lasting love, this same triad could leave you lonely.

A Russian warship in the English Channel fired warning shots several hundred yards in front of UK-flagged yacht that appeared to be sailing on a collision course with it on Tuesday, according to Russia’s defense ministry. The yacht did not report any injuries or damage and is continuing its journey. The ministry statement said the crew of a Russian frigate saw the civilian yacht, Bright Future, and said it was “on a dangerous course” that would bring it into “close proximity” with the warship.

The head of Africa’s Centres for Disease Control and Prevention warned on Tuesday that the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) could be the worst ever, saying that currently tens of thousands of contacts of those ill with the disease had not been traced. “If we don’t stop the outbreak very soon it will be worse than what we had in West Africa and eastern DRC,” Africa CDC Director-General Jean Kaseya told a virtual meeting of African heads of state in Burundi. He was referring to the outbreak that affected Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone in 2014-2016 that killed over 11,000 people and a less deadly 2018 outbreak in Congo.
