Chinese leader Xi Jinping called for deepening “strategic coordination and cooperation” with North Korea shortly after receiving a pomp-filled welcome to mark his first visit to the secluded nation in seven years. The two sides should inject “powerful momentum” into their ties, Xi said during a meeting Monday with Kim as he kicked off his two-day state visit, according to a readout released by Chinese state media Xinhua. China was ready to expand cooperation in areas like economics and trade, agriculture, health, construction, science and technology, he added.

Iran’s soccer team touched down in Mexico’s northwestern city of Tijuana on Sunday – a stone’s throw from the United States border – as Tehran criticized Washington over its visa restrictions ahead of the World Cup this summer. The president of Iran’s football federation, Mehdi Taj, said Sunday that the Iranian soccer team had been granted permission to enter the US for the tournament, but “only one day before the match,” according to semi-official Iranian media, sparking accusations of unfair treatment. “We do not know how far the Americans’ obstructionism will continue,” Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA) cited Taj as saying. “What the United States is doing reflects malice and a lack of equality among teams.”

When Elena Vladimirovna woke up around 4 a.m. to the sound of loud buzzing over her Moscow region apartment, she looked out of the window to see multiple drones overhead. The noise quickly faded, and she thought the danger had passed. But then came a loud bang from close by. “Below us, under the balcony, there is a canopy like a ledge. The drone fell on this canopy, and then it burst into flames, black smoke started coming,” she recalled. A room in her fifth-floor apartment caught fire.
