The US Coast Guard has asked Bahamian officials for permission to send divers to new locations in its search for Lynette Hooker after investigators found inconsistencies between her husband’s location data and his statements to investigators about where to search for his wife, a US official familiar with the investigation told CNN. Lynette Hooker, a 55-year-old American mother and sailor, went missing in early April. Her husband of 25 years, Brian Hooker, told authorities she fell from an 8‑foot dinghy in the rough waters near the Bahamas’ Abaco Islands as the couple was traveling back to their yacht one evening, according to police. But location data recovered from Brian Hooker’s electronic devices contradicts his early statements to investigators advising them where to look for his wife, the official said.

Astronomical prices for tickets to the upcoming World Cup soccer tournament have sparked an investigation by the attorneys general of New York and New Jersey. On Wednesday, New York Attorney General Letitia James and New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport jointly announced that they’re subpoenaing documents from tournament organizer FIFA about its pricing practices for matches at New Jersey’s MetLife stadium. At issue are prices and seating, with the pair saying that “fans may have been misled about the locations of the seats they were purchasing, and FIFA’s public statements and ticket releases may have contributed to soaring prices.”

Scientists have announced the discovery of a previously unidentified species of octopus found in the Galápagos Islands — and it’s sure to turn heads. The creature, which sports blue flesh and large eyes, can fit between the bottom of your palm and the first knuckle of your middle finger. In 2015, a remotely operated underwater robot captured the little, blue animal moving around in the sediment about 5,800 feet (1,773 meters) beneath the surface. From the ship above, one crew member compared the creature to a plush toy.

A Chinese lawyer who fatally poisoned the billionaire gaming tycoon who helped produce the Netflix sci-fi hit “3 Body Problem” has been executed, according to Chinese state media. Xu Yao killed his boss Lin Qi in 2020 by gifting him what he said were probiotic pills, but in fact contained lethal toxins which he bought off the dark web and mixed in his own lab. Earlier that year, the high-flying lawyer had helped Lin secure the rights to adapt Liu Cixin’s celebrated trilogy of sci-fi books, which starts with “The Three-Body Problem.”
