Texas Democrats still haven’t won a statewide race since 1994 or a Senate race since 1988, the year before James Talarico was born. But it’s a question that’s clearly legitimate in 2026. That’s because Democrats got their coveted opponent in the state’s US Senate race: the baggage-ridden Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton. (Paxton drubbed Sen. John Cornyn in a runoff Tuesday after a late endorsement from President Donald Trump.)
Astronomical prices for tickets to the upcoming World Cup soccer tournament have sparked an investigation by the attorneys general of New York and New Jersey. On Wednesday, New York Attorney General Letitia James and New Jersey Attorney General Jennifer Davenport jointly announced that they’re subpoenaing documents from tournament organizer FIFA about its pricing practices for matches at New Jersey’s MetLife stadium. At issue are prices and seating, with the pair saying that “fans may have been misled about the locations of the seats they were purchasing, and FIFA’s public statements and ticket releases may have contributed to soaring prices.”

Thousands of Cuban migrants deported from the United States have faced violations of their rights and are currently in “a legal limbo” in Mexico, where they have difficulties regularizing their situation and even obtaining medical care, according to a new report from Human Rights Watch. The HRW report, published Wednesday, is based on a review of deportation figures from January 2025 to March of this year, as well as interviews with authorities and deported migrants. According to the report, since the start of President Donald Trump’s second term, the US government has sought to increase its deportations and, to do so, has resorted to sending migrants to places other than their countries of origin.

The Justice Department has launched a criminal investigation into E. Jean Carroll, the former magazine columnist who accused President Donald Trump of sexual assault, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter. The investigation is focused on whether Carroll committed perjury in testimony tied to her two civil lawsuits against the president – one alleging he sexually abused Carroll in a New York department store in the mid-1990s, and a second for defaming her when in 2019 he repeatedly denied the assault, said she wasn’t his type and claimed she made it up to boost sales of a book. Prosecutors’ theory hinges on a 2022 deposition statement by Carroll, 82, that she received no outside funding for her lawsuit, though it was later revealed that billionaire Reid Hoffman had paid some legal fees and expenses.
