The mystery surrounding last week’s bombing attack in Monaco deepened on Tuesday as Ukrainian authorities revealed that the main suspect was found shot dead, with a Ukrainian intelligence officer and former law enforcement official suspected of her murder. Interpol previously named the main bombing suspect as 39-year-old Anastasiia Berezovska, who was born in Ukraine and recently resided in Germany. Her body was found with gunshot wounds to the head and pistol casings, according to police and the Ukrainian Prosecutor’s Office. Ukrainian authorities said they detained two men on suspicion of murdering Berezovska “by prior conspiracy.”

Rep. Becca Balint helped Sen. Bernie Sanders craft and lead efforts to cut US arms sales to Israel, wrote an op-ed calling Israel’s war in Gaza a “genocide” and has stood proudly with fellow progressives for two decades. But Balint was wincing last week as she stood on the steps of the Capitol, recounting the warning she gave her congressional staff. “I know at some point there will be a day of reckoning, because I still believe that Jews should have a homeland,” the Vermont Democrat told CNN. “There will be people, I think some of my own supporters, who will turn on me, because I still believe in a two-state solution. I still do. I still believe that Israel should be safe and secure. I believe that the Palestinians have been so ill-treated for so long and deserve a safe and secure homeland. I do not believe Israel should be dismantled.” Balint described being “shaken to my core” watching the video of Scott Wiener, the California state senator running for retiring Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s seat, recently being hounded out of a transgender rights event with angry shouts including, “You stopped being queer the moment you started supporting Israel, you piece of sh*t!”

The massive decline in oil prices over the past few weeks has gifted the Trump administration with some unexpected leverage in its ongoing negotiations with Iran. Despite an obliterated navy and air force, Iran wielded significant economic power in the spring. It effectively closed off the Strait of Hormuz to oil tanker traffic by threatening vessels with makeshift drones and explosive-packed speedboats. That persistent threat kept oil prices high through March, April and May, sending gas prices surging and global oil inventories to dangerously low levels. But now, the Strait of Hormuz is gradually reopening. Oil traders expect the historic oil supply shortage to quickly turn into a major glut as the world is flooded with crude. That’s why Brent crude hovers right around $70 a barrel, trading below its price from two weeks before the war – despite an attack on a tanker Monday.

Iran fired on three commercial vessels Tuesday in Oman’s territorial waters near the Strait of Hormuz, according to a US official. The official described the strikes as a “gross violation” of the memorandum of understanding with Iran. The third strike had not previously been reported. The US has a broad range of potential responses to the alleged violations and is considering all of them, according to the official. The Qatari-flagged vessel al-Rakiyat, a liquefied natural gas tanker, was “passing near” the key waterway when it was struck, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said Tuesday. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) center said the attack was reported at 9:19 p.m. UTC on Monday, which was 1:19 a.m. Tuesday in the Persian Gulf. CNN has reached out to Qatar’s Foreign Ministry for more details on the strike that hit the Qatari vessel.
